So this book was a good start. I could see where the author wanted us to go and how she wanted us to feel about each of the characters. The only thing was the execution. To me, this was one of those books where there was more explaining of the characters and telling us more and more about them instead of “showing” us the characters and their capabilities. There’s a difference between saying Alfonzo is a thug and showing us his thuggish ways for us to then conclude he’s a thug.... So i struggled with that in the book. That, and whiplash from the line to line character switching. Girlllaahhhhhh.

Also, insta-love. I was unable to connect with Alfonzo and Selange due to the insta-love aspect of their relationship. How did they move from one date to professing love for each other. Why did we skip over their courtship and the development of their feelings for each other? I was confused to say the least by Alfonzo; Mr. hardened heart on one page and then deep in love in the next🤷‍♀️.

Regardless of these sentiments i did feel like it was a interesting read and that the story itself was pretty imaginative. I’ll keep on going with this series. What can I say, I’m a glutton for a series and unless it’s pure T. R. A. S. H. I’m going to stick with it.

I found out about this series on a the romance junkies blog and so glad I did. I was a loyal Nook owner, love and swear by B&N. These books are not available on Nook and I was livid. All I saw was 5 star ratings positive comments and said I have to have them. I contacted the woman who maintains the blog and she emailed the author and the author actually responded! I was so ecstatic and it pushed me to pursue buying the books even more. So I literally invested in an iPad just to read this series and I absolutely have no regrets. I love Al and Selange, I love the action, the twists and the turns. I love the moments I hold my breathe and others when I am screaming revenge as if I am a character in the series. Heck Al has me ready to learn Spainish. Lol I've read 4 books and working on my 5th and they are all 5 stars in their own regard. I am like a stalker for this series and proud of it. The world of Al takes you in and holds you captive. I am a glowing app owner; who said a girl can't have the best of both worlds-) Muy Bueno!!!

Bravo to the author, as well, as a standing ovation to a job well done. When you've read as much books as I have, you learn to appreciate when one comes along that has such great story telling, as well as talent that shines through each page.

This story was unique and can appeal to any romance reader, who is looking for something different. I enjoy what the author did by infusing a bit of street lit then transition into a mob atmosphere. As the book starts, you get to know a bit of who Alfonzo and Selange are in their surroundings. As young as Alfonzo was, I kept saying to myself, he seems mature for his age. I love that the author made him smart and educated and he was not only street smart. Alfonzo's physical description was like chocolate melting in your mouth. That boy was, fine. I also love that he was Puerto Rican, but as the story progress, he learns he is much more. With his Latino heritage in play, the author fuses a lot of Spanish into the story, which I did not find at all confusing or irritating. If anything, it enhances the feel and the atmosphere of the story and that was different for me. Selange was beautiful, and with innocence, mix with beauty, she meshed well with Alfonzo. Although their coming together was through hurt and grief, seeing his growing feelings for her and needing to protect her, it was entertaining to see.

What made me more in love with this book, there was never a dull moment. Each scene brought characters to the forefront, and if they were or weren't relevant, they were being killed, shot at or kidnapped. The mob aspect gel so well in the story and the climax left me excited as the mob aspect comes into play and reveals a lot, which leaves room for book 2. Being from and in New York, I enjoyed the scenery of New York the author uses,and the use of Juniors, gets a thumbs up.

This was a great story. Job well done. I hope to get the same experience with each volume of Alfonzo's story.
