The Highlander Bride Scottish Duo Donna Fletcher 9780061136269 Books

I have mixed reviews for this box. The plot was definitely different and intriguing however the details in between were too drawn out and repetitive.
Sara the heroine was strong, intelligent and independent. But until the end, I found her to be selfish and obnoxious, sometimes rude and insufferable. She was a bully at most times which made the hero appear wimpish. I respect however that the hero Cullen could not bully her to have sex with him and that she voiced her concerns about it but she got hot and cold too often, I felt like I was reading the same pages over again. I like a strong woman but I hate bullies be they male or female.
Arguments between the characters dragged too much and the decision to have sex was so drawn out that when it happen I was relieved that I would suffer the discussions anymore. Definitely not sexy.
I gave the book a 3 for the plot bit execution was lacking. Not sure to recommend it

The Highlander Bride Scottish Duo Donna Fletcher 9780061136269 Books Reviews

I just LOVED this book. I was the first time I read it. I gave this one five stars because, I couldn't put this book down. I laughed, I cried and. Was so moved through this whole story. There was so much humor in this one. I wish I could be like Donna's characters. I hope if you get the. Chance to read this one, I know you will love it as well.
Wow. Ms. Fletcher can really write an intersting, funny, romantic and intriquing novel. I was impressed by her plot and characters and felt myself drawn into Cullen and Sara's worlds. This is the first book that I have had the privledge of reading by this author and it was amazing. I next plan to read Isle of Lies and Love me Forever by this same author. Sara is a hoot and Cullen is a hero that you both love and hate. I felt for his situation but I keep championing for him to finally see the future that he could have with Sara. Buy the book. It is well worth the read.

Summary

Forced to marry . . .

Cullen Longton was stunned by the news he has a son! Cullen is now determined to find his child, who was stolen by a vengeful enemy, and has followed the trail to a nunnery in the Scottish Highlands. A beautiful, desperate woman promises to assist him in his quest . . . for a price.

But powerless to resist her

Sara McHern is a prisoner behind convent walls, where she must remain until her father finds her a husband. Cullen's arrival is the answer to her prayers--and she will reunite him with his son only if he agrees to wed her. Then passion ignites, and a marriage of convenience is suddenly transformed into something fiery hot. Cullen never imagined he would surrender his heart to this feisty lass, but as they struggle to escape the web of deceit that surrounds them, love may be the only thing that will save them.

I must begin with the fact that I love Donna Fletcher. I only just started reading her stories and I have been quite impressed with some of them. I love, love, love me a highlander and she is quite talented in her writing.

Although this story was good, I wasn't as impressed as some of her other (newer) books. I really loved the premise of this story. I won't get into explaining it in detail because other reviewers have already done that. I loved each of the characters. The Hero was handsome, strong, heroic, and sexy as all get out (yum!) You truly felt heartbroken for the Hero because he lost so much (the love of his life and his newborn son). He didn't know he had a brother, which he just found out about in the previous book. He fell in love with one of the characters in that book and she became pregnant. A battle with the villian broke out and she died. He thought he lost his son as well, so started to tract him to find his body. DF has a knack for making the reader "feel" the pain and lonliness he felt and you truly felt awful for him.

I loved the heroine - she was brave, smart, beautiful, feisty, and knew exactly what she wanted (and didn't want). Her father wanted her married off to a laird who smelled, was a truly disgusting person, and she didn't even like him. She retaliated so her father sent her to a nunnery until she could decide who she was going to marry OR relented and married the slimeball. If you are a fellow highlander romance novel reader, and a historian, you know that women really had no say in who they were married to MOST of the time. Well, our itty-bitty heroine refused to marry unless it was for love. She refused her father's choice and went to the nunnery (you go girl!). Well, she had two years to decide her fate and the time was coming to an end and she still didn't have her a husband. Most would question that you are probably not going to find a husband in a nunnery, but low and behold, her prayers were answered the night the Hero came looking for his son's remains. The story starts out with the heroine praying to Heavenly Father for a husband and He listened to her and provided one. hehehehe It was a cute scene where the heroine is talking to Heavenly Father and then when she sees the Hero, she is so grateful. Needless to say - an adventure ensues where the heroine took the son before he was killed by the evil ones and bribes the highlander into marrying her in order for her to reveal the whereabouts of his son. DF creates a beautiful story where the couple slowly fall in love with eachother on their way to her Father's holding (to prove she is indeed married) and to find his son. A battle arises and the bad guy is taken care of quite nicely.

The only thing that prohibited me from giving this a higher score was the fact that the Hero thinks and talks about how he can NEVER love anyone but his first love and he can't have true feelings for the heroine because of his first love. I got so tired of hearing this that a couple of times, I placed the book in front of me and yelled at the Hero to GET OVER IT! I mean - my tender feelings can completely understand his love for his first love. Okay - it was tragic how she was killed and the baby was taken away and she died in his arms. I can also understand that the Hero had deep, and I mean DEEP, feelings for her still, but for him to constantly refer to never being able to love the heroine because of his first love, it got on my nerves. It is the reason I will never read it again - it was that annoying. It took until the very end for him to admit to himself and her that he did love her. I mean - come on now! Give me something - just a little bit of something to hold me over until the end.

Anyway, this will not prohibit me from reading other books by Donna Flethcer. Some of the ones I have read recently are on my favorite-ever shelf to re-read again and again.

Now if only my real life highlander would appear.................I guess that will be hard living in New Jersey. hehehehehe Happy reading friends! )
